About

I am a professional psychotherapist with 14 years of experience, working with individuals and couples   specifically  with people in the midst of change and those facing emotional and relational challenges. I am keenly interested in research in this field and am resourceful, optimistic and fully engaged in session.

I am interested in people: their stories and the wonderful uniqueness of us all. All of us meet with challenges and because we are unique these challenges impact us in different ways and to different degrees.

I find it helpful to look at the client’s challenge from two perspectives:

1) Control: clarify with clients “what is in my control and what is out of my control,” this is a very calming exercise

2) Emotion: accompany the client(s) as they learn to slow down to attend to and then to process the emotions whose job is to guide us to make decisions and to take action. Once we have arrived at the action plan, the emotions do not need to be as “loud.”

With these understandings we can move forward to concrete actions to bring about change.

My approach is specific to the personality, skill and goals of the individual. For some I provide short, clear education and hands-on training, for others  a calm, patient setting in which to find groundedness in the face of emotional overwhelm then training in how to process those emotions; in others I serve as a skilled, unbiased and compassionate listener with whom the client or couples can air their thoughts and challenges in a nonjudgmental setting.

I am a Christian and hold to this belief:

“The person who stands before you is an eternal being; you have never met a mere mortal.”     – C.S. Lewis

I trust God for guidance and believe the work He is doing in individual lives – carried on inside and out of the counselling session. I pray for clients and I work with them in with deep engagement, skill and care.
